Responsible for providing premier legal services to GE Capital Americas – Canada.
Essential Responsibilities The Compliance Leader reports to GE Capital Americas Chief Compliance Officer. The Compliance Leader role is a high profile role within GE Capital Americas — Canada. The Compliance Leader will be accountable for core compliance prevention and detection processes across Canada. In particular, the Compliance Leader’s responsibilities will include:
- Leading GE Capital Americas — Canada’s Compliance Review Board (“CCRB”);
- Developing and rolling out compliance processes as well as reflecting GE best practices and ensuring that such processes remain robust and relevant;
- Developing and delivering compliance training throughout Canada;
- Actively participating in Canada business development and new product efforts to ensure that compliance is a key part of acquisition and new product diligence, execution and integration;
- Delivering regular compliance assessments across the business and developing core compliance metrics;
- Monitoring developments in relevant law, regulations and interpretations.
The Compliance Leader will be a key member of GE Capital Americas — Canada’s management team and will work alongside and be accountable to senior members of GE Capital Americas — Canada
Qualifications/Requirements Required
- Highest degree of integrity and ability to champion compliance as a core business value across multiple provincial jurisdictions and functions.
- Good understanding of the two legal regimes in Canada (civil law and common law) as well as financing processes.
- Able to work to a clear and measurable set of deliverables using own initiative and with strong influencing skills with associates at every level.
- Candidate must be highly organized, computer literate, a self-starter, and good at managing and prioritizing numerous projects to meet demanding deadlines.
- Fully bilingual (French and English).
- Good analytical ability and sound judgment to identify and solve issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Willing to travel across Canada on a regular basis
Desired Characteristics - Law degree.
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in a legal function within GE or in a similar compliance function in the financial industry.
